Module 8: BASIC AERODYNAMICS

Our brand-new online Training Materials cover EASA Part 66/ Part 147 Basic Training Modules and are compliant with new EU Regulation 2023/989.

After completing the online payment, you will receive the e-book via email within 2-3 working days. Please check your spam folder if you do not see it in your inbox.

Important Note: Candidates who are not enrolled in a full-length Part 66 Basic course and wish to enroll directly for the Part 66 Basic Examination are advised to consult additional information sources, gain hands-on experience, and thoroughly prepare for the exam in accordance with the syllabi outlined in EU Regulation 1321/2014, as amended. Although the training materials cover the syllabi subjects, more in-depth information and knowledge gained from experience are needed for a comprehensive understanding.

Aerodynamics is the study of the motion of air, particularly its interaction with a solid object, such as an airplane wing. Aerodynamics is a sub-field of fluid dynamics and gas dynamics, and many aspects of aerodynamics theory are common to these fields.

Even if it’s not necessary for a mechanic to know everything about Aerodynamics and Theory of Flight, it is important to understand the relationship between the aircraft and the forces that act upon it during flight.

A basic understanding of the physical laws of nature which affect flying and on the ground aircrafts is the first step in studying aerodynamics. Understanding the motion of air around an object enables the calculation of forces and moments acting on the object. In many aerodynamics problems, the forces of interest are the fundamental forces of flight: lift, drag, thrust and weight. Understanding how pilots control and counteract those forces prepares engineers to make intelligent decisions affecting the flight safety for airplanes and helicopters.
